We have outlined below a landscaping job in Lightwood, Stoke-on-Trent, that we completed where the client was delighted with the final result.
These photos show the garden at the beginning of the landscaping process. As you can see we have already started to take out the original flags that were in the rear of the garden. The customer wanted to recreate the whole of the back garden with a Mediterranean feel. The idea was to create a garden that was ideal for sitting out in for the customer, for them to enjoy their garden and to give it a sense of space.
The ground work was started, however a couple of snags were hit when we were digging down as the main clay waste pipe was brittle and needed replacing. This was rectified immediately to ensure that a new pipe was put in place, this meant there was no inconvenience for the client and the toilet was back in use by the time they returned back from work.
As you can see from the image below we inserted a recessed manhole cover, this enables the manhole cover to blend in with the patio area and remove any potential trip hazards and make the area more aesthetically pleasing.
These were the existing walls at the customer’s property; they were structurally sound but did not give the desired affect for the customer, as they wanted a softer, cleaner look to the garden. As a result we attached fencing and trellis to the walls this gave a lovely finish to the garden as it softened the overall appearance giving a more Mediterranean feel whilst making the area feel larger.
Hard-core was then laid on the area where we are laying the Indian Stone Patio. This was prepared and ready for the flags to be laid in a random pattern. The patio/path was laid. The cobbles and the stepping stones were sourced in the same material to ensure the area was consistent.
From the back door the garden stepped up to a small patio, which again stepped up to the next level This next level was created using gravel, this is easier to maintain and gave a lovely additional feature to the garden. To break the gravel, to give interest and a walk way, we created stepping stones to go from the patio area to the decking area at the top of the garden. Again we used the same stone to match the patio and path, keeping all areas consistent.
To give the Mediterranean feel two borders were created, one being a raised border. Both borders were planted up with shrubs, perennials and herbaceous plants that were in keeping with the Mediterranean style that we were aiming for. These also gave colour and interest to the garden.
The pergola again was added to the garden, in keeping with the style for the landscaping. This area gave an additional area for them to sit and relax in.
At the top of the garden a decked area was created in Hard Wood, this is a lovely material to create this decked area in. This provided more interest to the garden and another area for the clients to sit out on and entertain.
The landscaping job in Lightwood, Stoke-on-Trent was completed, with the clients being very pleased with the outcome. The Mediterranean style was achieved and the customers were left with a garden they were able to enjoy, with little maintenance.
