A gravel area in your garden is a suitable alternative to using a patio and much easier and quicker to create. Gravel gardens are very easy to maintain, as good quality gravel can last for years when correctly laid. Gravel adds texture and colour to your garden, our favourite being golden gravel. There is a wide variety of gravel products to choose from, including plum slate for a totally different colour.
How to Create a Gravel Area
We recommend that you excavate the area to a depth of 50mm below the final level. We would then recommend laying a semi-permeable membrane to prevent weeds growing whilst letting the water drain freely.
The final step would be to then lay the gravel/slate of your choice. Adding a bench and potted plants to the gravel area would then give more colour and interest to the area.
